3. Diwali Event

• Diwali is celebrated on October 24, 2022

• Date: Wednesday, October 26th at 3:15pm

• Festival of Lights celebrated in Hinduism and sometimes Buddhism

• usually lasts five days during the Hindu lunisolar month of Kartika 

• reach out to ASC members/students who may be interested in leading this event with us - Ann will send out a message and send their contact info in Slack today

  - can be a zoom meeting

  - 1st meeting tomorrow or Saturday night

  - It’s ok if not everyone can make it every time!

• need to decide how much commitment will be needed and how to meet with them to get ideas

• weekly meetings with as many board members as possible

• send out an email to all of the students who are interested to gauge their ideas, time commitments, and which days would work best for them by Thursday, September 29th - Nam and Justin

• include in the email that we’re planning to have weekly meetings for 45 min-1 hour

4A. Update on Unity Council?

• Introductory meeting: defining what Unity Council is 
• Connection across Affinity Groups 
• Planned for it to be somewhat open— anyone can drop in and listen 
• Meetings are about once a month, subject to change 

4B. Identity Formation

• Discuss: counts as a GOYB?
• Will ask Ms. Setiady
• discussion topics: 
• colorism in Asian cultures
• effects of the model minority myth
• perpetual foreigner phenomenon
• October: Filipino American History Month - collaborate again with Filipino Culture Club and PIA?
• May be too busy- consider November

• Open to collaboration— no plans yet

• deadline to sign up is Wednesday, October 10, at 11pm
• Please get involved! It’s a lot of fun!

• cultural dances, outside groups perform (SIHI, Polynesian Dance club performs, Ukulele club, spoken word, and more)

• collaboration with SIPAC (Señor Orque already sent out email gauging interest for acts)
